The Central Kowloon Bypass (Yau Ma Tei Section) extends 4.7 km and adopts a dual three‑lane carriageway design. It links the Yau Ma Tei Interchange in West Kowloon with the Kai Tak Development Area and the Kowloon Bay road network in East Kowloon, forming a vital east–west transport corridor across central Kowloon.
As an alternative express route, the bypass helps divert traffic from the heavily congested major east–west corridors. Once commissioned, it will allow vehicles to avoid the busy Central Kowloon area, delivering a substantial reduction in travel time. During peak hours, the journey between Yau Ma Tei and Kowloon Bay is expected to drop from around 30 minutes to just about 5 minutes.
